The General Radio 268 Variometer was introduced in Bulletin 926 (1924) and remained available through Catalog G1 (1932).
The Type 268 Variometer is a variable inductor with a fixed stator and shaft-controlled rotor. Its main use is in the first stage of broadcast band radio receivers of the TRF design. Located between the antenna and the first RF amplifier, it served as a tunable variable coupling. It features silk-covered wire coils and moulded bakelite construction.
