The General Radio 1236 IF Amplifier was introduced in 1968 Catalog T and remained available through Catalog78 1978.
The Type 1236 is an amplifier operating at a fixed frequency of 30 MHz and a 0.5 or 4 Mhz bandwidth. Its a hybrid design with the preamplifier using 7586 Nuvistors and a transistorized post amplifier. A adjustable precision attenuator is located between the amplifiers. It also contains a power supply for a unit oscillator. The Type 1236 with the proper unit oscillator and mixer 874-MRAL comprise a heterodyne detector. A front panel control is used to adjust the output of the connected unit oscillator by varying it's plate voltage. The rear panel contains the 30 MHz amplifier output and binding posts supply demodulated signal output. Applications for the 1236 include direct null detector at 30 MHZ, with external oscillator and mixer a heterodyne detector or a relative signal strength meter.
