The General Radio 1654 Impedance Comparator was introduced in Catalog U (1970) and remained available through Catalog 1978.

The Type 1654 is third in a line of impedance comparators starting with the 1604-B in 1952 and continued with the 1605-A in 1956.

Like the earlier 1605-A, the 1654 was designed for applications of sorting, selecting, and adjusting of components in production and inspection at high speed. Unlike that predecessor, however, construction is all solid-state, replacing some twenty vacuum tubes.

Specifications

  • Impedance Range: See manual
  • Frequencies: Internal only 100 Hz, 1, 10, and 100 kHz, ±1%
  • Accuracy: 3% of full scale
  • Resolution: Meter, 0.003% and 0.00003 radians; Analog-voltage output, 0.001% and 0.00001 radians
  • Voltage Across Standard and Unknown: 0.3, 1, or 3 V selected by front-panel control
